Overwhelmed by inspiration and unsure where to begin

Courtney & Josh — A New Orleans Wedding in Funky Formal Elegance

A NOLA wedding built on funky formal elegance and effortless joy, for a couple who make ordinary moments worth celebrating loudly.

The Problem

With so much visual inspiration pulling in every direction, C&J needed a single point of view to bring it all together.

As a caterer who has spent her career making other people feel taken care of, C held a high bar for guest experience that the design had to meet, not just decorate around.

With Josh's easy, golden retriever warmth setting the emotional tone, the design needed to feel just as unguarded and joyful.

And with the ceremony and reception in two separate spaces, the challenge was carrying that same festive, funky energy across the transition so guests never felt the shift.

Phase One

The Written Concept

Close-up of vintage script lettering reading Joy on aged cream paper
Yellow-framed venue doorway opening onto a black-and-white checkered floor and chandelier
Rows of pink velvet theater seating

“The visual direction lives somewhere between a storybook and a dinner party you never want to leave.”

The answer arrived somewhere between a French Quarter balcony and a Wes Anderson film set: symmetrical, saturated, just a little absurd in the best way. We built the concept around that same tongue-in-cheek wonder, treating New Orleans like a stage set for two people discovering it together, fully, for the first time. What followed was less a color palette than a whole world - funky, formal, and unmistakably theirs.

Phase Two

The Visuals

PH-02

Still life of grapes, sliced figs, and pink sedum in a white bowl

Accent

Body

EB Garamond is the body font. It stays out of the way so the rest of the design can breathe. This is also a good place to mention that we source custom accent fonts for all of our clients on the vision tier and above. It's the perfect way to add character and continuity across all wedding details.

Phase Three

The Application

PH-03

Four colorful French oil bottle labels in orange, olive, purple, and peach
Close-up of a pink feather-trimmed patio umbrella
Rows of green cucumber cocktails lined up on a mirrored bar at night
Repeating pastel Hitching Post arched badge pattern on a green background
Monogrammed cocktail napkins in sage, pink, and purple beneath champagne glasses
Powdered sugar beignets piled in a cloth-lined basket
Retro photo booth with a mauve curtain set up beside a pink outdoor table setting
Pyramid of salt-rimmed cocktail shooters garnished with dried orange slices among hydrangeas

Tablescape Details

Linen napkins, bespoke menus, and custom table numbers.

Ceremony Space Design

Warm lighting, unstructured greens, and symmetrical staging.

The Custom Go-Cups

A true New Orleans custom, carrying the design out into the city streets.

Bespoke Illustration

A NOLA Saints motif, reimagined with J & C to represent the couple

The Result

From a broad idea for a NOLA weekend to a cinematic, playful, and deeply hospitable reality.

By holding one clear vision consistently across their booklet, florals, go-cups, and tablescapes, we delivered a celebration that stayed unmistakably theirs.
